Rafale’s first Cruzex

Dassault’s Rafale is participating in its first Exercise ‘Cruzex’.

November 15: Dassault’s Rafale is participating in its first Exercise ‘Cruzex’ between November 8 and 19, the largest air exercise in South America and organised by the Brazilian Air Force.

Five nations, nearly 80 aircraft and more than 3,000 personnel are involved in the biennial exercise located at Natal Air Base in north-east Brazil. As well as the Brazilian and French Air Forces, aircraft from Chile, Uruguay and the USA are also taking part.

The four French Rafales are from EC 01.007, based at St Dizier and have been accompanied by four Mirage 2000-5s from GC 01.002, based at Dijon. The aircraft routed to Brazil via Dakar in Senegal assisted by two Boeing C135-FR tankers from Istres.

France is hoping to sell the Rafale to the Brazilian Air Force to meet its F-X2 fighter requirement, for which a decision is expected soon by the Brazilian defence ministry.
