South Korea wants its own ‘Air Force One’ Presidential aircraft.
February 1: South Korea is to get its own ‘Air Force One’ Presidential aircraft, says DefenseNews.com.
The country’s procurement agency, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) is expected to issue a request for proposal for a VC-X Presidential airliner in April, with delivery slated for 2014.
The Republic of Korea Air Force (RoKAF) operates a single Boeing 737-700 in the VIP transport role with the 296th Squadron based at Seoul Air Base, but wants a larger aircraft with a longer range – at present it charters Boeing 747s from Korean Air and Asiana Airlines as required. The report says that aircraft such as Boeing’s 777 or 747-8 and the Airbus A340 are being considered.
