Texans to Iraq


Seven T-6A Texan II training aircraft are to be supplied to the Iraqi Air Force.

August 12: A $170 million contract has been awarded to the Hawker Beechcraft Corporation by the US Department of Defense to provide seven T-6A Texan II training aircraft for the fledgling Iraqi Air Force.

Notification was made to the US Congress on December 9, 2008 of the possible sale of up to 20 aircraft to Iraq. The contract will provide the first seven aircraft plus ground-based training systems, aircraft spare parts, technical publications, and two years of logistics support from the US Air Force.

Also Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $140 million contract to provide two C-130J-30 aircraft for the Iraqi Government in addition to four aircraft ordered on April 30, 2009 at a value of $293 million.
